Gridlock Fears Linger Over Proposed Mixed-Use Car Dealership
BRENTWOOD (CBSLA.com) — A strong turnout was expected at a public meeting Wednesday night about a proposed Westside development project that opponents fear could bring even more traffic to an already busy intersection in Brentwood.
The meeting is expected to focus on Martin Cadillac at the corner of Bundy and Olympic, which is considering a proposal to renovate its showrooms as part of an 800,000-square-foot mixed use development project.
Dubbed the Martin Expo Town Center, the project would build 516 apartments, 67,000 square feet of retail space, and an underground parking garage near the dealership's Cadillac-Saab-Pontiac-GM showrooms. The proposal also calls for 200,000 square feet of creative office space.
City officials will hold a Public Scoping Meeting ahead of an upcoming Environmental Impact Report (EIR) for the project, where Santa Monica and Brentwood residents are expected to weigh in on any possible impact on traffic and accessibility to the Expo Light Rail corridor.
Marilyn Krell, president of the South Brentwood Residents Association, told KNX 1070 NEWSRADIO the project apparently is allowed some extra density because of its proximity to the Expo line.
"The [Expo] line is wonderful, but it's not gonna take us where all of us need to go," Krell said. "There's a tremendous amount of traffic that's going east and then north of the 405, so that's not really gonna help those folks."
The public has until April 19 to submit all written comments for the project.
The meeting will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. at The Olympic Collection located at 11301 West Olympic Blvd.
