Greuel, Garcetti In Statistical Dead Heat Ahead Of Runoff Vote
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — The race for the next mayor of Los Angeles is heating up less than two weeks before voters head to the polls.
KNX 1070's Charles Feldman reports Wendy Greuel and Eric Garcetti are in a statistical dead heat ahead of a runoff vote on May 21.
LA Mayoral race tightens down final stretch
A new poll conducted April 29 through May 7 by the Pat Brown Institute at Cal State Los Angeles showed Greuel polling 46 percent of likely voters to Garcetti's 45 percent, with a 4 percent margin of error.
Nine percent of the 674 voters polled were still undecided.
The survey also showed Greuel gaining a foothold among White and African-American voters, while Garcetti is leading among Latinos and Asians.
Just one week ago, one poll showed Garcetti with as much as a 10-point lead over Greuel, despite the current City Controller raising $1.05 million heading into the runoff vote compared with Garcetti's $2.28 million cash on hand, according to the most recent campaign data.
Both candidates are scheduled to participate in a debate Friday night at the Pat Brown Institute at Cal State L.A.
