Great Aunt Of Child Killed By Tornado Says Family Is Devastated

INGLEWOOD (CBSLA.com) — The great aunt of a little girl killed when a tornado destroyed an elementary school in Oklahoma said her entire extended family is devastated by the loss.

Ja'Nae Hornsby, 9, was killed when an EF5 tornado destroyed Plaza Towers Elementary School in Moore, Oklahoma, where she was in the third grade.

She was one of seven children killed at the school.

Her great aunt, Inglewood resident Sheryl Gooden, said she learned the news of her death from her brother, the victim's grandfather.

"She was so bubbly," said Gooden. "You wouldn't believe that this little girl would be gone so early."

Ja'Nae's mother died of lupus last year. The house she shared with her father and little sister was destroyed by the tornado.

"She is the first grandbaby of my brother and his wife," said Gooden. "They're having a hard time."

Gooden said she will travel to Oklahoma to attend her grandniece's funeral.
