LA County Identifies COVID-19 Outbreak At Grant Elementary School
HOLLYWOOD (CBSLA) — The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health has identified a COVID-19 outbreak at Grant Elementary School, Los Angeles Unified confirmed Wednesday.
According to a Los Angeles Unified spokesperson, the cases are concentrated in a single classroom and Los Angeles Unified is fully cooperating with the Department of Public Health.
"The District has alerted all those potentially impacted and the quarantined class has been provided with instructional materials to continue their studies," the spokesperson said.
It was not immediately clear how many people in the class are sick or whether its all students or student and staff.
A parent who has a son in the class said she and her husband were notified about the exposure on Friday.
She had to pick her son up from school and he is now in a mandatory 10-day quarantine while doing classes via Zoom.
Students and staff are required to wear masks indoors and undergo weekly COVID testing, regardless of their vaccination status. All district employees must be fully vaccinated by Oct. 15.
A local advocacy group called Parents Supporting Teachers is tracking COVID-19 cases in the district. The group reported that 1,895 students and faculty tested positive for the virus in just the first week of school.
