Gov. Brown Expected To Sign 3 Bills Intended To Prevent Elder Abuse
SAN DIEGO (CBSLA.com) — Gov. Jerry Brown is expected to sign three bills that are intended to prevent elder abuse.
KNX 1070's Tom Reopelle reported that SB543 would ensure criminals who commit crimes against seniors are prosecuted and sentenced to the fullest extent of the law.

Another bill, AB140, would modernize the definition of undue influence for elder financial abuse.
"Some of this stuff is so egregious, like this financial abuse where people literally, I mean, you can imagine the emotional, as well as financial devastation. These are good bills," said state Sen. Mark Wyland (R-Carlsbad).
The third measure, AB477, would require a notary public to report any suspected abuse.
"In the Hispanic community, the translation to 'notarios,' they are actually almost revered like lawyers. So it's even more important in that community that we get rid of the bad apples," said Wyland.
