Gov. Brown Expected To Declare State Drought Emergency
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Gov. Jerry Brown will declare a state drought emergency Friday morning.
The governor, who recently said he wasn't ready to make such an announcement, is expected to make the statement in San Francisco at 10 a.m.
Earlier this week, Brown told CBS2's Dave Bryan that the declaration of an emergency won't make it rain.
"This is a problem on how we use water and there's no quick answer. The bishops say, 'Pray for rain,' and that may be as effective as my declaration. So we're gonna do whatever we can," Brown said.
The declaration, which could get federal officials to speed up relief efforts, comes in the middle of one of California's driest winters on record and after two dry years that have depleted reservoirs.
