Good News, Powerball Jackpot Is $320M! Bad News, We Don't Get Game Until April 8
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Powerball frenzy is sweeping the country.
That game's current jackpot is $320 million. That's roughly $199.3 million if you take the cash value payout. Not so rough!
Officials say the prize could go even higher as ticket sales around the nation for Saturday's draw have been unusually brisk. Numbers are chosen every Wednesday and Saturday at 10:59 p.m. ET.
The bad news for Californians, of course, is that Powerball won't officially start here until April 8.
Until then, California residents can make do with the Mega Millions jackpot ($26 million, next draw Tuesday) or tonight's SuperLotto draw ($11 million.)
The record jackpot for Powerball reached $579 million in November 2012. (Two tickets, one in Arizona and one in Missouri, split the prize.)
A Mega Millions jackpot of $656 million was split three ways last April. Winning tickets were sold in Maryland, Kansas and Illinois.
According to the California Lottery, the record SuperLotto jackpot was $193 million in February 2002. Three lucky ticket holders in Montebello, Half Moon Bay and Orange split the prize.
(UPDATE: One ticket sold in New Jersey matched all six numbers. The winning numbers for Saturday's drawing were 17, 29, 31, 52, 53, and the Powerball 31.)
