'Gone With The Wind' Actress Ann Rutherford Dies At 94
BEVERLY HILLS (CBS) — One of the last surviving actors from "Gone With The Wind" has died.
Actress Ann Rutherford played Scarlett's younger sister, Carreen, in the 1939. Rutherford died Monday night at her Beverly Hills home, a close friend told the Los Angeles Times. She was 94.
Rutherford had been in declining health with heart problems.
Rutherford was born Nov. 2, 1917 to performers – her father, John Rutherford, was a concert tenor, and her mother, Lucille Mansfield, was a silent-film actress.
Rutherford was cast in nearly 60 movies by 1950, and was a regular with the hugely successful Andy Hardy series. That was when studio head Louis B. Mayer told her his son-in-law, producer David O. Selznick, wanted to borrow her for "Gone With the Wind."
Mayer called it a "nothing part" and planned to say no, Rutherford told The Times in 2010, but she convinced him to reconsider.
One of the last surviving cast members of "Gone With the Wind," Rutherford made a second career out of attending festivals featuring the beloved Civil War epic.
Rutherford is survived by her daughter, Gloria, and two grandsons.
