GoFundMe Account Set Up For Skateboarder Killed In San Juan Capistrano Hit-And-Run
SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO (CBSLA.com) A GoFundMe account has been established for the 23-year-old skateboarder who was killed Friday in a hit-and-run crash in San Juan Capistrano.
Saturday, police announced the arrest of 19-year-old Andrew Christopher Michaels of Laguna Niguel,
Michaels was arrested around 9:30 p.m. Saturday. His Dodge truck was also impounded for further evidence.
Authorities said Michaels was driving his Dodge pickup going eastbound on Del Obispo Street around 10:15 p.m. Friday when it struck Cesar Andres Medina at the intersection, authorities said.
In a strange twist of fate, Medina was brought to Mission Hospital Regional Medical Center, the same hospital where his sister, Jenifer Medina, works in registration.
Her co-workers realized the accident victim was related to their friend.
"They picked me up off the floor, and put me in a room," said a tearful Jenifer, "And I was like is he gone? Is he gone? And they told me. He's gone."
On the GoFundMe page (click here), Jenifer wrote, "The day I feared the most -- the day I would see my little brother come in as a trauma patient to my work. I was supposed to be the one in the trauma room registering him but thank goodness I wasn't. He was a John Doe at first -- until the trauma team found his wallet. When I saw the wallet it looked familiar and when we opened it and saw my brother's face on the ID ...my whole world collapsed. As I did."
