Girl, 16, Rescued In San Pedro Cliffside Drama
SAN PEDRO (CBS) — A 16-year-old girl dangled by a rope over the side of a seaside cliff Saturday in San Pedro, but she made it to safety uninjured, a city fire official said.
The dramatic incident was reported at 4:06 p.m. near 1801 West Paseo del Mar, said Brian Humphrey of the Los Angeles Fire Department.
Witnesses reported the girl was hanging 20 feet over a seaside cliff near White Point Park and Royal Palms County Beach, Humphrey said.
The teen had been on a photography expedition with her family and she was using existing rope to return to the top of the steep, Humphrey said.
"A lifeguard saw the girl in distress and went over to help, but was unable to bring her up," Humphrey said.
The girl, initially reported to be 6-years-old, was exhausted but not injured.
She left the area with her family, Humphrey said.
