Gay And Lesbian Supporters Plan 'Kiss-In' At Chick-fil-A's Nationwide
HOLLYWOOD (CBS) — A "kiss-in" has been planned at Chick-fil-A restaurants nationwide Friday.
The National Same Sex Kiss Day has been organized by gay and lesbian supporters to show "Chick-fil-A Our Thanks For Their Support Of Love, Equality, And The Real Definition Of Marriage," according to the event's Facebook page.
The "kiss-in" is planned for 5 p.m. Pacific Friday. Couples are encouraged to go to the fast-food restaurant and take a picture kissing.
"Head to your local Chick-fil-A and share a kiss with your sweetie. Let's show Chick-fil-A that EVERYONE deserves to be able to fall in love, start a family, and take their children to eat fried chicken after a soccer match. ;)," the website said.
The event was originally created on July 19.
Meanwhile, vandals Friday spray painted graffiti on a wall at a Torrance Chick-fil-A, 18200 Hawthorne Boulevard, according to police.
The unknown suspects painted, "Tastes Like Hate" with a picture of a cow, the chicken chain's mascot.
On Wednesday, former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee called for a national "Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day" to show support for the chain's president and CEO, Dan Cathy, who came under fire for his stance on same-sex marriage.
Huckabee said that freedom of speech and not same-sex marriage is at the core of this controversy.
"This really isn't about the chicken, it's not even about the product, it's just about whether the person who is the executive of a company can still speak his mind," said Huckabee. "We expect that every day from the CEOs of Apple and Starbucks and Ben & Jerry's, and it ought to be the same set of rules applied to a person who is a conservative, and in this case, an evangelical Christian."
Cathy has said he believes in a Biblical interpretation of marriage as between a man and a woman. The chain reportedly donated millions to anti-gay marriage groups in recent years, according to Equality Matters.
Chick-fil-A also has a history of applying Biblical principles to its business, such as closing stores on Sundays.
The company said sales records were broken Aug. 1 after thousands of customers lined up to show their support for Cathy.
