Gasoline Price Dips Below $3 At Some Area Stations
ANAHEIM (CBSLA.com) — Gas prices continued their downward trend across the Southland on Thursday, with isolated reports of stations charging less than $3 a gallon, including the independent Berri Brothers outlet in Anaheim.
Drivers were almost giddy as they filled their tanks at the gas station at Euclid Street and Broadway, where the the $2.99 price tag was advertised around 10 a.m. It was the lowest price CBS2's Michele Gile could find Thursday in Orange County for a gallon of regular gas for customers paying with cash.
The price was 11 cents cheaper than a regular gallon of gas last week, 34 cents less than last month and 35 cents cheaper than a year ago at this time.
Berrie Brothers cashier Cynthia Gill has been swamped.
"They are happy," she said. "They save a lot of money. They put $40 in and they get change back. That makes them happy. Even a dollar makes them happy."
Across the street at the Mobil station, the cash price for a gallon of regular was 20 cents higher.
With the money Trina Osborne is saving, she's treating her grandsons.
"We're on the way to ... a tackle store so he can go fishing at Big Bear this weekend," she said. "And he and I are going to go to Pizza Hut and get a pizza."
The Berri Brothers cashier could not say how long the $2.99 price would last.
