Gasol To Donate $1K Per Point Friday To Aid Japan Quake Victims
By: Ivan Serrano
LOS ANGELES (CBS) — When the Lakers face off against the Clippers Friday, Pau Gasol will have a little more on the line than just Staples Center bragging rights.
The 7-foot forward center has pledged to send $1,000 for ever point he scores against the Clippers to aid victims of Japan's earthquake and tsunami.
Gasol is one of 19 other NBA players, including his brother Marc of the Memphis Grizzlies, who have pledged to help the earthquake-ravaged people of Japan between March 25 and 27.
The donations will be made through Direct Relief International, one of the world's leading medical relief organizations, and will support the immediate health needs of people affected by the quake and resulting tsunami off Japan's coast.
The Lakers and the Clippers tip off at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Staples Center.
Gasol also donated $20,000 for the Haiti relief fund back in January, where he scored 20 points against the New York Knicks.
