Gas Prices In Los Angeles County Now Highest In Calif.
HOLLYWOOD (CBSLA.com) — Gas prices in Los Angeles County are now the highest in the state with the average price for a gallon at $4.28.
CBS2's Joy Benedict, reporting from Hollywood, says the price of a gallon of regular unleaded at a Shell station on Sunset Boulevard was $4.29 on Sunday.
According to AAA, Orange and Ventura counties are now averaging $4.26 a gallon and $4.22 in the Inland Empire.
As Benedict reports, Sunday marked the 24th straight day for rising gas prices in the county, which were up three cents from Saturday.
"It hits families. Groceries. Entertainment. The money that I'm spending here is money that I'm not spending shopping, restaurants, employing people, the economy and so forth," said one motorist.
Another driver, Jennifer, told Benedict that she spends about $800 a month on fuel as she drives in from Lancaster six days a week for work.
"You have to work to eat. If you don't work, you don't eat," she said. "But I'm not pleased and I'm looking for a different car now."
Although demand in February is generally lower, AAA says California's surge in gas prices is due to the scheduled maintenance of area refineries since the state uses an environmentally friendly blend of gas.
