Gas Prices Hit Record Highs In Time For Christmas Travel
LOS ANGELES (CBS) — Everyone going over the river and through the woods to grandma's house for Christmas can expect to pay a premium for gas this holiday weekend.

The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in Los Angeles County rose today to its highest amount during a Christmas week, increasing 1 cent to $3.279, breaking the previous record of $3.246 set in 2007.
It's not much better in Orange County. The average price is in OC also set a Christmas week record, increasing 1 cent to $3.282, breaking the record high of $3.193 in 2007.
Analysts say the higher oil price is the result of anticipated increased demand because of an improved economy.
If you're going to grandma's house by air, expect a lot of company there too. The Air Transport Association expects 44.3 million people on U.S. flights between Dec. 16 and Jan. 5 -- up 3 percent over the same period a year ago but still below pre-recession travel volume. The average ticket price is $421, up by 5 percent.
A travel warning was also issued regarding insulated beverage containers like thermoses. Air carriers have been alerted about a potential terror tactic involving the containers, a TSA official said.
