Gas Explosion Rocks Glendale Neighborhood
GLENDALE (CBSLA) -- A gas explosion rocked a Glendale neighborhood Saturday evening.
Officials said the natural gas explosion likely happened inside a laundry room at an apartment complex.
Glendale Fire said the eight-unit complex is located in the 1200 block of Viola Avenue.
Debris was strewn everywhere.
CBS2's Chris Holmstrom spoke to neighbors and many said they explosion made them think they were experiencing an earthquake.
The cause of the blast is under investigation.
Holmstrom reported that the building is not structurally sound and all residents have been asked to leave. It is unclear if the building will be red tagged.
One man described the explosion as a tank hitting the side of the building. He said it knocked everything off his walls.
"It just rocked us," said Don, "it just moved us, rocked us. Dropped things down [off the walls] that had been there for years and years. So what we did, I came down the stairs and right over here we looked back down and you could see all this smoke coming up from down below. And a door was completely blown out down there."
Authorities said there were no reports of injuries.
Twenty-one people are displaced following the explosion, Holmstrom reported.
