Gardena Man, 36, Faces Charges He Sexually Molested Deaf Girl In 2005

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — US Marshals announced the arrest of a former aide to deaf children who allegedly molested a 14-year-old girl in 2005.

Alfie Lumabas, a now 36-year-old Gardena man, was taken into custody by a task force including the Marshal's Sex Offenders Investigative Branch, Pacific Southwest Regional Task Force and US Marshals Central District of California.

Investigators said Lumabas' alleged victim was one of his charges at the Hawaii School for the Deaf and Blind in Honolulu.

A grand jury in Hawaii indicted Lumabas for two counts of sexual assault.

Officials say the assaults took place in 2005 but were not investigated until 2008 when the alleged victim told school administrators. Authorities said Lumabas moved to the Los Angeles area after 2008 where he continued to work with deaf children.

Lumabas was arrested Thursday at his residence in the 2500 block of West Redondo Beach Blvd.

He was taken to Los Angeles County jail to await arraignment and extradition to Hawaii.
