Garcetti Launches Mayor's Volunteer Corps
BOYLE HEIGHTS (CBSLA.com) — Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti kicked off an effort to get more city residents involved in their communities Saturday morning.
Garcetti introduced the "Mayor's Volunteer Corps" in front of a crowd of 200 people who then spread out along Cesar Chavez Avenue in an effort to tidy up their Eastside neighborhood.
"Whether you are passionate about helping to end veteran's homelessness or reducing dropouts, there's a place for you in the Volunteer Corps," the mayor said.
A new page on Garcetti's website — lamayor.org/volunteer_corps — notes that the city is looking for volunteers in five specialty areas that include helping veterans, education children, nurturing families, neighborhood investment and workforce/economic aid.
People who sign up for the Volunteer Corps will be asked to take part in a minimum of three events per year. The webpage also lists other volunteer opportunities with the city.
