Gang Member Gets 40 Years For Long Beach Murder
LONG BEACH (AP) — A Long Beach gang member has been sentenced to 40 years in prison for the 2006 apartment building shooting death of a man and wounding of two others.
Investigators say a DNA match linked 22-year-old Ricky Kong to the killing of Daniel Victor Magana and wounding of Magana's two friends.
Kong pleaded no contest Tuesday to voluntary manslaughter and attempted murder and he was immediately sentenced. Trial had been scheduled to start Wednesday.
The Long Beach Press-Telegram says Kong was arrested for Magana's killing after a DNA sample taken after his 2008 attempted robbery conviction of attempted robbery matched a DNA sample found at the 2006 death scene.
