Gang Member Charged In Fatal Shooting Of Girl, 6
RIVERSIDE (CBSLA.com) — A gang member was formally charged Wednesday in the murder of a 6-year-old girl who was gunned down outside of a family party in Moreno Valley.
Keandre Narkie Johnson, 21, was charged with one count each of murder, attempted murder, and participation in a criminal street gang, the Riverside District Attorney's Office said.
"There is also a special circumstance allegation attached to the murder count that the murder was committed to further the activities of a criminal street gang," the DA said. "There are also allegations of gang participation and causing great bodily injury attached to the attempted murder count as well as personal use of a firearm sentencing enhancements."
Johnson, who was arrested Tuesday after authorities received tips from the public, is accused of fatally shooting Tiana Ricks on Sept. 7.
Tyrell Ricks Jr., 26, and his daughter had just arrived at a family member's going-away party when two men reportedly pulled up in a black car and opened fire at party goers in the home's driveway.
Tiana was struck in her shoulder. The bullet then went through her and hit her father in the leg.
Relatives said Tiana asked if her father was okay before gasping for breath and losing consciousness. She succumbed to her injuries at a local hospital.
The girl's father said he has no relationship with Johnson and has never met him.
Johnson, a documented member of Edgemont Criminals gang, is scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday afternoon in a Riverside County court.
He was on parole for a 2011 burglary conviction at the time of the murder.
