Fundraiser Held For Recovery Of San Bernardino Police Officer Shot On Duty

SAN BERNARDINO (CBSLA.com) — An Inland Empire community is rallying around a police officer as he struggles to rehabilitate himself after being shot in the line of duty.

A fundraiser to benefit San Bernardino police Officer Gabriel Garcia was slated for Monday at Mexico Cafe, at 892 East Highland Avenue, and next door at Guys and Dolls Hair Salon, both in San Bernardino.

Police officers will serve food at Mexico Cafe from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. The event is being hosted by the restaurant and the San Bernardino Police Officers Association (SBPOA).

Guys and Dolls Hair Salon is offering haircuts Monday for $10 with proceeds also benefiting Garcia's recovery.

Financial aid can be dropped off at the Mexico Cafe fundraiser, submitted online via Paypal, or mailed to the SBPOA (c/o Officer Gabriel Garcia, P.O. BOX 2967, San Bernardino, CA 92405, tax ID# 27-2231399) or to The Mexico Cafe (892 E Highland Ave., San Bernardino, CA 92404).

Garcia continues to undergo intense physical therapy after sustaining a shot to the head on Aug. 22. His family said Garcia emerged from a coma in September at Arrowhead Regional Medical Center. He's making miraculous strides with his recovery, but it's a long road ahead.
