Frenzied Fans Celebrate Purple Friday

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- It's a Purple Friday with Super Bowl implications. In just two days, we'll find out whether the Ravens will be playing on football's biggest stage. Excitement is building all around town.

Andrea Fujii reports fans are hoping this will not be the last Purple Friday of the season.

The city has been painted purple all week, and there's a wave of optimism and excitement.

Fans are in a frenzy and there's purple a plenty. The state is getting set for Sunday's big game.

"We're going to sweep them. We're going to double their score. Whatever it is, we'll double it," said a fan.

Fans are flocking everywhere from a tent in Rosedale selling merchandise to Jimmy's Seafood in Dundalk.

"We're going to have our picture taken tonight with the Super Bowl winning quarterback," said a fan.

Quarterback Joe Flacco and wide receiver Torrey Smith took time Thursday night to pose for pictures and sign autographs for the their fans.

"It's no big deal to take an hour out and say hello to everybody. These people are the reason why we're here today, why we're playing the way we are and why we do what we do," said Flacco.

"Excited about it. It tells you a lot about our fan base," said Torrey Smith, Ravens receiver.

Flacco even held babies, including newborn Raven Madelina.

"Because she's the number one Ravens fan. She loves Joe Flacco," said Tammy Brauckhoff, mother.

"To be here at the end of the year with four teams left in the thing and have a chance to go to the Super Bowl and play is a pretty special thing," said Flacco.

The Ravens credit the fans with giving them a perfect record at home this season.

The Patriots are favored to win Sunday by a touchdown.
