French Valley Man Who Allegedly Aimed Rifle At Deputies Shot, Killed
FRENCH VALLEY (CBSLA.com) — A French Valley man who reportedly aimed a rifle at sheriff's deputies during a domestic violence call was shot and killed by a deputy.
Arriving officers said that gunshots were fired inside a home in the 3200 block of Westport Way where deputies were answering a domestic violence call early Sunday morning.
The woman made the call about 1:17 a.m., according to Riverside County Sheriff's Sgt. Lisa McConnell.
The woman said she was inside the house with two children when gunfire prompted a series of 911 calls.
Sheriff's deputies pulled up to the house and set a perimeter. Deputies tried coaxing the man -- now identified as Otavis Hall, 35 -- to come out but he refused.
Hall entered the garage from the house and walked out through a single garage door with the rifle still in his hands. Hall ignored orders to drop the weapon and was fatally shot when he allegedly raised the rife toward the sheriff's deputies, McConnell said.
Hall was pronounced dead at the scene. His killing marked the second reported law enforcement related-shooting in Riverside County in the past three days.
The woman and children were not hurt, McConnell said.
