Free Spay/Neuter Surgeries Offered To Low-Income Dog Owners In Pacoima, Panorama City, Sylmar
LOS ANGELES (CBS) — More than 1,000 free spay/neuter surgeries will be offered to low-income dog owners in Pacoima, Panorama City and Sylmar through the end of the year.
The free surgeries are being offered by the AngelDogs Foundation, thanks to a grant from No Kill Los Angeles, an initiative of Best Friends Animal Society.
The foundation's mobile clinic began the program Sunday, and will provide services to low-income dog owners several times a month.
To qualify for the free surgery, dog owners must live in one of three ZIP codes – 91342, 91402 and 91331 – and have a household income of under $40,000 for a family of four. The surgery includes a microchip with registration, vaccinations, an e-collar and pain medication, according to the foundation.
"Spay and neuter is crucial to ending the pet overpopulation problem by drastically reducing the number of unwanted animals that end up in city shelters and on city streets," said Tipton. "This project is a tremendous benefit to taxpayers, low-income dog owners and the animal lovers of Los Angeles."
