Frank, Jamie McCourt Headed Back To Court Over Bigger Divorce Settlement
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Frank and Jamie McCourt are set to return to court this week, this time to hash out whether she deserves a bigger settlement after the Dodgers were sold for $2.1 billion.
Jamie McCourt is suing her ex-husband for $770 million, claiming in post-divorce papers that she settled for $131 million because he fraudulently persuaded her that his assets, including the storied franchise, were worth $300 million.
Frank, Jamie McCourt Back To Court For Bigger Divorce Settlement
Frank McCourt sold the team for $2.1 billion in March 2012, two months after the couple's divorce proceedings were finalized. Jamie McCourt wants the settlement agreement set aside for a new award of at least $900 million.
The McCourts were married Nov. 3, 1979 and have four children. Frank McCourt bought the Dodgers in 2004.
During a pre-trial hearing Wednesday, a judge denied several motions from Frank McCourt's attorneys seeking to exclude evidence about the true value of the Dodgers. Jamie McCourt's lawyer, Bert Fields, believes that evidence will play a key role.
Opening statements in Friday's non-jury trial are scheduled to begin Friday and the case is expected to last three days.
