4th Defendant Convicted In Covina Hills 911 Murder
WEST COVINA (AP) — A fourth defendant has been convicted for the shooting death of a Southern California mother of two who was on the phone with a 911 emergency dispatcher when she was killed.
Jurors decided Wednesday that 21-year-old Victor Manuel Maurtua guilty of first-degree murder during a burglary for the March 19, 2008, midday attack of 46-year-old Hsiao Hsu in her Covina Hills home.
The immigrant from Taiwan was shot by intruders while placing a 911 call. The dispatcher heard two shots, and she was shot three more times as she was chased through the house.
The Pasadena Star-News says three other intruders also face prison time: 19-year-old Christopher Stratis was convicted Monday, 22-year-old Christopher Kevin Santana was convicted June 14 and 19-year-old Megali Fernandez pleaded no contest.
