Former Wrestling Coach Sentenced To Nearly Four Years In Prison On Sex Charges
EL MONTE (CBSLA.com) — A former Rosemead High School assistant wrestling coach who pleaded no contest to sex charges involving two boys has been sentenced to 44 months in state prison.
Thirty-year-old Herbert Daniel Ortizmonroy in May pleaded no contest to charges of oral copulation of a person under 16, and committing a lewd act on a child, according to the District Attorney's Office.
The sentence was handed out on Tuesday.
Ortizmonroy had been extradited from Mexico last November after a routine check performed by Mexican immigration authorities found that he was wanted by sheriff's detectives. He had gone to the U.S. consulate in Mexico to apply for a travel visa to Guatemala.
The District Attorney's Office said in an earlier statement allegations against Ortizmonroy surfaced after one of the victims made a video that incorporated material from Ortizmonroy's Facebook page. The montage was then posted to YouTube, where it was viewed by the other victim.
Ortizmonroy also ran a children's wrestling program in Rosemead.
