Former USC Star Stafon Johnson Settles With Alma Mater For Weight Lifting Accident
LOS ANGELES (CBS) Former Trojan star running back Stafon Johnson has settled a lawsuit with his alma mater of USC after alleging that mistakes by a strength and conditioning coach contributed to the injury on his neck/throat.
The 23-year-old sued his former school at LA Superior Court last January, saying 275 pounds of a lifting bar fell on his neck while bench pressing during the start of the 2009 football season.
The injury caused major damage to his "voice box," and required multiple surgeries.
The suit claims that the man responsible for spotting Johnson, Jamie Yanchar, was included in the suit claiming he was "distracted and not paying attention" to Johnson.
Yanchar fled with former USC head coach, Pete Carroll to the Seattle Seahawks as an assistant to the strength and conditioning coach.
