Former Sheriff Lee Baca Diagnosed With Alzheimer's Disease, Court Filing Indicates
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Former Los Angeles County Sheriff Lee Baca has been diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease, federal prosecutors have revealed in a court filing Monday.
The disease, according to the document, is in its early stages, with an "uncertain prognosis for how quickly it will deteriorate his cognitive function."
The 74-year-old Baca pleaded guilty in February to a charge of lying to federal investigators during a jail corruption investigation.
Prosecutors say, despite his condition, they want Baca to be given the full six-month sentence.
