Former Lakers Coach Raffling Championship Ring For Charity
STUDIO CITY (CBSLA.com) — A former Los Angeles Lakers coach is raffling off a championship ring for charity.
Bill Sharman, who led the Lakers to their first title in Los Angeles in the 1971-72 NBA season, is giving away the 2010 ring he was awarded by the team.
Raffle tickets are just $2 each, but a person has to buy at least five of them.
All proceeds from the raffle go to eight charities, including the foundation established by Lakers legend James Worthy.
Worthy said it's important to use personal success to help other people.
"That's really the only thing that makes us feel good is when we give back and help those who are less fortunate than we are," he said.
Sharman, who no longer has much of a speaking voice, was inducted into the NBA Hall of Fame as both a player and a coach.
He was named one of the NBA's 50 best players of all-time.
