Former Laker Luke Walton Hired As Assistant For D-League Affiliate D-Fenders
EL SEGUNDO (AP) — The Los Angeles D-Fenders have hired Luke Walton as a player development coach for the NBA D-League team.
Walton played 11 years in the NBA with the Lakers and Cleveland, including 50 games with the Cavaliers last season. He helped the Lakers win back-to-back NBA titles in 2009 and 2010. He averaged 4.7 points and 2.8 rebounds in his career.
In July, Cleveland renounced the rights to Walton, but general manager Chris Grant said the door remained open for him to return.
Walton was an assistant coach for the University of Memphis during the 2011 NBA lockout.
