Former LA Deputy Mayor Eileen Decker Confirmed As U.S. Attorney
LOS ANGELES (AP) — The former deputy mayor of Los Angeles is now U.S. attorney for the Central District of California.
The U.S. Senate on Wednesday confirmed the appointment of Eileen Decker. She'll be the chief prosecutor for a region with 19 million people that stretches from Orange County to San Luis Obispo.
Decker was nominated by President Obama at the recommendation of Sen. Dianne Feinstein, who announced the confirmation Thursday.
Decker was head of the national security division for the U.S. attorney's office in Los Angeles. In 2009, when she became LA's deputy mayor for homeland security and public safety.
In a statement, Mayor Eric Garcetti says Decker's leadership helped make LA one of the nation's safest big cities and a model for disaster preparedness.
