Former Deputy Sentenced To 3 Years Probation For Leaving Scene Of DUI Crash
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — A former Los Angeles County sheriff's deputy was sentenced Wednesday to three years probation for leaving the scene of a 2011 DUI crash that injured another motorist.
Michael Anthony Grundy pleaded no contest to drunken driving and leaving the scene of the January 29 accident after striking a deal with prosecutors.
The 48-year-old former deputy was off duty when he got into a crash shortly after midnight at the intersection of Normandie Avenue and Imperial Highway.
According to the District Attorney's Office, Grundy was found by two sheriff's deputies who brought him back to the scene, where he was arrested by the CHP.
Court records show he has a previous drunk driving conviction stemming from a 2005 incident in Riverside County, according to City News Service.
Grundy has already completed a six-month, live-in alcohol treatment program. He was also require to wear an alcohol-monitoring device for six months and was ordered to pay almost $26,000 to the injured motorist.
The plea deal was arranged in October 2011.
