Former Anaheim Resident Pleads Guilty To 1980s Rapes
SANTA ANA (CBSLA.com) — A former Anaheim resident accused of raping two Orange County women in the 1980s pleaded guilty Monday to three felony counts.
James Michael Camp, 59, was extradited to Orange County in April. He was serving a five-year federal prison sentence in Arizona for making bombs threats to Disneyland at the time of his extradition.
According to Deputy District Attorney Whitney Bokosky, Camp met his two victims by responding to classified advertisements they posted.
The first victim was advertising an apartment for rent in Santa Ana when Camp responded to her ad in July of 1980. According to prosecutors, Camp tied the victim up at knifepoint with an electrical cord, raped her and burglarized her apartment.
One year later, Camp responded to an ad selling patio furniture in Anaheim. Prosecutors said he raped the second victim at knifepoint and stole valuables from her home and purse.
Camp, who spent nearly 30 years behind bars after pleading guilty to rape in Louisiana, was charged with the rapes in 1982.
Sentencing is scheduled for June 27.
