Fontana Teacher Involved In Alleged Hazing Incident Free On Bail
FONTANA (CBS) — A high school teacher arrested in connection with an alleged hazing incident on the campus of a Fontana high school is free on bail Monday.
Career Technical Education teacher Emmanuel De La Rosa, 27, was arrested Saturday night on charges relating to child endangerment, police said. He posted bail Sunday and is due in court on Wednesday.
Police say three students at AB Miller High School have come forward alleging they were hazed by four classmates. The victims say De La Rosa knew of the incidents and in at least one instance, directed the suspects to assault them in response to a behavioral problem.
"The teacher was either familiar with what was going on or maybe could have actually directed the students on how to do that hazing," Sgt. Robert Morris of the Fontana Police Department said.
Specific details surrounding the incident, which police say occurred inside one of the classrooms in the last three weeks of summer school, have not been released.
"There were physical assaults made. I can't tell you about the nature of those assaults because the investigation is ongoing," said Sgt. Robert Morris of the Fontana Police Department.
De La Rosa, and four other students, including 18-year-old Fernando Salgado, were all arrested on assault, child endangerment and other charges, according to authorities.
"He didn't mention anything in particular just that they might pick on some kids in class," Krista Hernandez, Salgado's sister, said.
The three minors are being held at Juvenile Hall in San Bernardino County.
Salgado is being held at the West Valley Detention Center on $100,000 bail. He will appear in court Tuesday on charges of assault, mayhem, rape, child cruelty and attempted sodomy, according to jail records.
Police are investigating if there could be more victims involved.
