Fontana Police Probe Alleged Hazing Incident At High School; 5 Arrested
FONTANA (CBS) — Four students and a teacher from AB Miller High School in Fontana were arrested late Saturday night in connection with an alleged hazing incident on school grounds.
Fontana police said in a statement released that at least one student suffered minor injuries as a result of a physical assault on Friday. However, Jeff Nguyen, reporting for CBS2 and KCAL9, said three students were victimized.
The details surrounding the incident, which police say occurred inside one of the classrooms, was not released.
The teacher, identified as Emmanuel De La Rosa, 27, was arrested on charges relating to child endangerment, police said.
The students, three of which are minors, were arrested on various charges, including assault and child endangerment, according to authorities.
A fourth student, 18-year-old Fernando Salgado was arrested and booked into the West Valley Detention Center. The Press-Enterprise says that student has been charged with assault, attempted sodomy and child cruelty. He is being held in lieu of $100,000 bail.
The three minors are being held at Juvenile Hall in San Bernardino County.
Police say they do not believe that any other district employees were aware of the activity in the classroom.
No further details were immediately released. An investigation was under way.
