Florida Prosecutors Review Pitcher's Domestic Case As Trade To Dodgers Remains On Hold
DAVIE, Fla. (AP) — Florida prosecutors are reviewing evidence in a domestic disturbance case involving Cincinnati Reds pitcher Aroldis Chapman and his girlfriend.
Broward State Attorney's spokesman Ron Ishoy confirmed in an email Wednesday that prosecutors are examining the possibility of criminal charges. A Davie Police Department report listed the Oct. 30 matter as closed because of insufficient evidence and conflicting accounts.
According to a police report, Chapman's girlfriend, 22-year-old Cristina Barnea, told police he pushed and choked her. Chapman said there was an argument but that he was pushed down by Barnea's brother, eventually getting a handgun and firing eight shots into a wall and window while locked in his garage.
The situation has delayed a proposed trade of Chapman from the Reds to the Los Angeles Dodgers while Major League Baseball investigates.
