Flea Collar Producers Agree To New Cancer Warning Label
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — California pet product retailers and manufacturers have agreed to put warning labels on flea and tick collars that contain a cancer-causing chemical called propoxur.
The agreement settles a lawsuit filed last year by the Natural Resources Defense Council.
The chemical is listed as a carcinogen in California so products must be labelled with a warning when it is used as an ingredient.
The NRDC has petitioned the Environmental Protection Agency to order the chemical removed from pet products nationwide.
The settlement with 18 pet product retailers and manufacturers was reached on Dec. 10, but the documents were delivered Thursday.
