Flash Flood Warning Issued For Big Bear Lake, Surrounding Areas
SAN BERNARDINO (CBSLA.com) — A flash flood warning was issued Tuesday for portions of San Bernardino County as a thunderstorm moved across the area.
The National Weather Service (NWS) in San Diego issued the warning until 6:30 p.m after Doppler radar indicated a thunderstorm producing heavy rain would likely bring flooding to the Big Bear area, including Big Bear City, Big Bear Lake, Angelus Oaks, and other local areas.
"Excessive rainfall" is also expected in Mount San Gorgonio, Forest Falls, Seven Oaks, along Highway 38 between Onyx Summit and Sugarloaf, Highway 38 between Yucaipa and Onyx Summit, and Highway 18 between Running Springs and Big Bear, according to the NWS.
The thunderstorm is expected to result in debris flows consisting of rock, mud, vegetation, and/or other materials "within and downstream" of the 2015 Lake Fire burn scar off Highway 38 south of Big Bear Lake.
Affected residents were urged to move to higher ground until the storm passes.
