First Look: Future Rams Stadium To Feature Field-Level Seats With Wireless Hookups
INGLEWOOD (CBSLA.com) — Welcome to the future home of the Rams in Inglewood, where development is underway on what is expected to be one of the world's most state-of-the-art stadiums.
In the past few weeks, GPS-guided heavy equipment has been grading the land where the old Hollywood Park race track was demolished.
Project manager Gerard McCallum gave CBS2/KCAL9's Jeff Nguyen a tour of the site, where concrete and asphalt from the old complex is being crushed to be re-used around the new stadium, which will feature field-level seats and TV monitors that connect to phones or tablets.
"You'll be able to look at close-ups, replays, anything that's going on right on your phone," according to Gerard McCallum of the Hollywood Park Land Company.
The stadium project will include retail space, apartments, condos and at least 25 acres of parks, playgrounds and green space. In fact, the developers boxed up about 100 trees from the old race track to re-plant here.
When fans go in to the stadium, they'll actually go down into their seats instead of up. The design is meant to keep a low profile so it doesn't tower over homes in the area - which means most of the stadium will come out of a hole in the ground.
"We don't run into height restrictions relating with the FAA as well," said McCallum. "So we get two for the price of one by lowering the stadium 100 feet into the ground."
The digging is expected to start in the fall, with kick-off set for the 2019 season.
