Firefighters Rescue Residents From Smoky Apartment Blaze In Hollywood
HOLLYWOOD (CBS) — Residents of a three-story apartment building were rescued off their balconies by firefighters in Hollywood Saturday as the structure filled with smoke.
The fire was reported at 2 p.m. at 1616 N. Serrano Ave., said Erik Scott of the Los Angeles Fire Department.
"We have more than 50 firefighters at the scene," Scott said. "The flames are on the second floor and there is heavy smoke on the third floor of the building."
Scott said at least one unit was on fire on the second floor of the building.
No information regarding injuries was immediately available.
Dispatchers told firefighters via radio that residents in a third-floor unit had fled to a balcony and phoned 911 from there, saying they needed rescue.
