Firefighters Knock Down 5-Acre Blaze In Pomona
POMONA (CBS) — An aggressive response kept a brush fire in Pomona confined to five acres Saturday night, preventing it from spreading to homes, authorities said.
The fire, which broke out in the area of Juniper Ridge not far from the 71 Freeway, was reported about 9:08 p.m. Saturday.
It was declared out by 9:59 p.m., said Andre Gougis, dispatch Supervisor of the Los Angeles County Fire Department.
Firefighters told CBS2's Ann Sterling that good brush clearance helped save nearby homes from the blaze which grew to about 5 acres before being knocked down.
"They've done great clearance and that's the key to everything going out way. The winds were in our favor, the weather was in our favor," Battalion Chief Mike Carnes of the LAFD said.
