Firefighter Suffers Smoke Inhalation While Battling Westlake Blaze
LOS ANGELES (CBS) — One firefighter suffered smoke inhalation during a firefight at a two-story home in the Westlake area.
Firefighters were dispatched to a report of a fire in an attic at a home in the 1100 block of Westlake Avenue at 9:38 a.m. Sunday, said Matt Spence of the Los Angeles City Fire Department.
Crews had the fire out at 10:02 a.m., Spence said, adding that the injured firefighter was taken to an area hospital for further evaluation. He was reportedly in fair condition.
"They got a pretty quick knockdown and had some spot fires there," he said.
One firefighter said the house had a double-roof, making it difficult to get water on the base of the flames.
The cause of the fire was still under investigation. Damage estimates were not immediately available.
