Firefighter, Nurse Recovering After Being Stabbed At Boyle Heights Hospital
BOYLE HEIGHTS (CBSLA.com) — A firefighter and a nurse were recovering on Wednesday after being stabbed by a patient inside the emergency room of a Boyle Heights hospital.
Just after 9:30 p.m. on Tuesday, officers were sent to White Memorial Medical Center, located on East Cesar E. Chavez Avenue, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
Once at the scene, authorities learned a man who was at the hospital on a medical hold had threatened hospital staff with a knife.
According to witnesses, the man went ballistic before the stabbing happened.
Officers detained the man at the hospital. He is expected to be booked on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon
The firefighter, who works with the Los Angeles Fire Department, has been transferred to another trauma center for treatment of a stab wound to his left arm.
According to police, the male nurse sustained a stab wound to his shoulder during the incident.
Both victims remain listed in good condition.
At this time, it remains unclear if the weapon was recovered at the scene.
