Fire Consumes 80 Acres Of Brush In Murrieta

MURRIETA, Calif. (CBS) — Officials say a wildfire near the Santa Rosa Plateau Ecological Reserve west of Murrieta has spread to 80 acres, but no structures are immediately threatened.

The blaze, which broke out about 1:15 p.m. near near Clinton Keith Road and Avenida La Cresta, was burning quickly through dense brush, according to Jody Hagemann of the Riverside County Fire Department.

Clinton Keith Road remains closed at Bear Creek Road, according to the California Highway Patrol.

300 firefighters, 33 engines and 8 aircraft are battling the flames as the California Highway Patrol has closed roads nearby.

The fire is about 20 percent contained, and the cause remains unknown.
