Small Brushfires Reported Near 210 Freeway in Lake View Terrace
LAKE VIEW TERRACE (CBSLA.com) — Some lanes of the eastbound 210 Freeway have been reopened after all eastbound lanes were briefly closed as firefighters worked to stamp out a series of small brushfires, the Los Angeles Fire Department reported Thursday afternoon.
The California Highway Patrol said the fires were reported about 4:40 p.m. along the south side of the freeway near the Wheatland Avenue interchange, according to City News Service . Another fire was spotted farther east, near Sunland Boulevard.
A spotter in a helicopter told ground crews that the fires were likely caused by a truck dragging a chain or shredded piece of tire.
By 4:55 p.m., eastbound traffic had stopped because of heavy smoke on the freeway. Crews were cutting lines to the south, in heavy brush along the Tujunga Wash.
Sky2's Derek Bell, who was overhead near the Angeles National Golf Club as the eastbound lanes were closed, reported that traffic was backed up to the 118 Freeway.
No structures were apparently threatened.
