Fire Knocked Down At USC's Viterbi School Of Engineering
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — A sprinkler system Tuesday knocked down a blaze on the fourth floor of a high-rise building at the University of Southern California.
Heavy smoke could be seen coming from the Viterbi School of Engineering, which is located at 3651 Watt Way, around 9:40 a.m., according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.
The fire was out by the time fire crews arrived, but they remained on scene to mop up water, which may have gone to the floor below.
"Overheated equipment on the forth floor of Vivian Hall at UPC caused excessive smoke and heat which activated fire sprinkler system. Building closed until further notice. Length of closure uncertain at this time but is estimated at several hours. Fire department on scene conducting clean up. Further information will follow as it develops. Please avoid Vivian Hall." USC sent out through its TrojansAlert system.
A damage estimate was not immediately available, but no injuries were reported.
