Fire Engulfs Pallet Yard, Family Business In Fontana
FONTANA (CBSLA.com) — Residents in Fontana reported hearing three or four small explosions just before a large fire was seen at a pallet yard Saturday afternoon.
The two-alarm fire was reported just before 3:30 p.m.
San Bernardino County Fire is being assisted by fire teams from Rialto and Rancho Cucamonga.
No evacuations have been ordered.
The location of the fire is Arrow Highway and Sultana Ave.
The fire, fueled by all the wood and possible propane, continued to burn even seven hours after it was reported.
The explosions people heard were most likely a propane tank blowing up. Propane is used to power some of the company's equipment.
CBS2's Tom Wait spoke to family members of the business' owner.
The business was closed at the time the fire was reported.
Ramirez Pallets was first opened in 1977.
Judy Ramirez, daughter of the owner, told Wait, "I'm just more concerned for my parents. They've worked so hard."
Maribel Sanchez, whose brother owns the business, echoed that sentiment. "God is going to help us. We have a lot of faith in God. And I know Ramirez Pallets will go up again," she said. "We know we are going to rebuild."
