Fire Crews Investigate Plane Crash In Calabasas
CALABASAS (CBSLA.com) — Los Angeles County fire crews were investigating a plane crash Monday afternoon in the foothills of Calabasas.
Firefighters were battling a roughly half-acre brush fire around 2 p.m. along Las Virgenes Road and Mulholland Highway when they found debris in the burned area.
"We got reports of a brush fire. We got out to that and it was such a remote area, we dropped some firefighters in on the fire and we had some who hiked up. We made a determination that it was plane wreckage. We have a search and rescue going to see if there are survivors in the wreckage," said Fire Inspector Quvondo Johnson.
The Federal Aviation Administration was on the scene.
Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department spokesman Steve Whitmore said the crash appears to be connected to a small plane's hard landing on a golf course in Westlake Village around 2 p.m.
Federal investigators will make the final determination of the cause of the accident, he said.
