Crews Get Upper Hand On Fire At Universal Studios Backlot
UNIVERSAL CITY (CBS) — Crews battled a fire at a building on the backlot of Universal Studios Thursday afternoon.
Officials reportedly considered declaring it a second-alarm fire due to heavy smoke, but the blaze was nearly out at 12:30 p.m.
The fire burned in an unoccupied building in the 3900 block of Lankershim Boulevard where demolition work was taking place, said Universal Studios spokeswoman Cindy Gardner. It was contained to the ducting of a small structure on the roof of the building.
Los Angeles County, Los Angeles City and the Burbank fire departments all responded to the blaze.
No injuries were reported.
It was unclear how the fire began.
Universal Studios' backlot has been damaged by eight other fires since 1932. The most destructive fire was started by a welding torch on June 1, 2008. It took firefighters 12 hours to knock down the three-alarm blaze.
